كنتَ من قبلِ أن تُلقَّبَ كالبَد

كنتَ من قبلِ أن تُلقَّبَ كالبَد

رِ وأعلى قَدراً وذِكراً ونُورا

رِ وأعلى قَدراً وذِكراً ونُورا

Before you were given your title, you were like the full

Before you were titled like a full moon

moon, and greater in worth, renown, and light.

You were of high status, renown and light

ثم أشكَلتُما عليَّ بأن صِر

ثم أشكَلتُما عليَّ بأن صِر

تَ تُسمى كما يُسمَّى مُنيرا

تَ تُسمى كما يُسمَّى مُنيرا

Then you and it became indistinguishable to me, since you came

Then you turned into one who is named Munir

to be called 'Radiant,' just as it is called.

So I apologize, though unused to dirt

فتميَّز لأَستَميحَكَ إنِّي

فتميَّز لأَستَميحَكَ إنِّي

ما تَعوَّدتُ أستميحُ البُدورا

ما تَعوَّدتُ أستميحُ البُدورا

So distinguish yourself, that I may seek your bounty; for I

And see my state as it was before

am not accustomed to seeking bounty from full moons.

I endure this day and night

وأري حالَتي على حالَتي الأو

وأري حالَتي على حالَتي الأو

لى أُقاسي الأضحى بها والغَديرا

لى أُقاسي الأضحى بها والغَديرا

And I see my condition still as it was at

Time goes on as it went

first: in it I suffer through Eid al-Adha and al-Ghadir.

As I met the prince

والزمانُ الذي غَدا فعلَى ما

والزمانُ الذي غَدا فعلَى ما

كانَ يَغدو وقَد لقيتُ الأميرا

كانَ يَغدو وقَد لقيتُ الأميرا

And time goes on just as

it used to, though I have met the emir.
