أزرَت أنامِلُه جُوداً عَلى المُزُنِ

fingertips outdid the rainclouds in generosity:

Whose fingers have poured forth kindness upon the balances,

أهكذا الدهرُ لا ينفكُّ نائِلُهُ

أهكذا الدهرُ لا ينفكُّ نائِلُهُ

حتَّى يُقيمَ لقَيسٍ حاتِمَ اليَمَنِ

حتَّى يُقيمَ لقَيسٍ حاتِمَ اليَمَنِ

Is Time like this, its bounty never ceasing,

Is this how time incessantly assails

until it raises up for Qays a Hatim of Yemen?

Its seekers until it establishes for Qays the Yemenite chief?
