فَلماso when دَعَتنيcalled me صُروفُvicissitudes الزَّماtime (word continued)
فَلما دَعَتني صُروفُ الزَّما
نِcompletion of 'time' إلَيهِto him دَعَتنيcalled me إِلىto صَرفِهاwarding them off
نِ إلَيهِ دَعَتني إِلى صَرفِها
So when the vicissitudes of time called me
The turns of fate have led me to it
to him, they called me to ward them off.
It has led me to turn it
وكلٌّand everyone سِواهُexcept him عَلىaccording to قَولِهاtheir word
وكلٌّ سِواهُ عَلى قَولِها
يَقولُspeaks وينظُرُand looks مِنfrom طَرفِهاtheir eye
يَقولُ وينظُرُ مِن طَرفِها
And everyone but him, according to their word,
And all else besides what it dictates
speaks and looks through their eyes.
Speak and look askance
إِذاwhen ابنُthe son of عَلِيٍّAli تَولَّىtakes possession of العُلىthe heights of honor
إِذا ابنُ عَلِيٍّ تَولَّى العُلى
تولَّىturn away المُغالونَthose who exaggerate فيin وَصفِهاdescribing them
تولَّى المُغالونَ في وَصفِها
When the son of Ali takes possession of the heights of honor,
When the son of Ali takes the helm
those who exaggerate in describing them turn away.
The hyperbolists take the helm in describing it
