So I may see whether it would suit me?

One who yearns and inspires yearning, while you reproach him,
Is fairer to the eye than one who forgets and is forgotten.

Stands firm except the burden-bearing camels.

The wide ones—so he suffers the eyes' own ailment.

Remains unchanged in his state of turning away.

For no scripture is recited for you to hear;
Far from it! Were he a listener, it would be recited.

It is as though, when I reproach him in private,
I reproach Ahmad ibn Ali for his generosity.

And reproach is baseness if by it you seek
A habit of stinginess from a habit of generosity.

Wealth and generosity accompany him; he singles out
Wealth, of his two companions, as the one he tires of.

I spoke in your praise without speaking at length.
