في لَيلَةٍ لَم يُبق لي

فيها معَ الأَيامِ شُغلا
On a night when I was left
In a night when I had
with no concern for the days,
No business left with days,
وتَصرَّمَتand it ended فكأنَّso, as though وَجface (first part of وجه)
وتَصرَّمَت فكأنَّ وَج

هَ الصُّبحِ أَظلَم إِذ تَجَلَّى
And it ended, as though the face
And dawn's face seemed
of dawn darkened as it shone forth.
To darken as it shone,
ماhow (exclamatory) كانَwas أَسرَعَswift ماthe act of وليtook charge (first part of وليت)

How swiftly I took charge
How quickly time has turned,
of the matter concerning you—and how swiftly it passed!
Changing you and me.
