طالَ شغلُ القصائِد

Poems have long been occupied
The writing of poems has occupied
between Isa and Hamid;
Isa and Hamid for so long
وهيand they (the poems) ليسَتare not تَفيdo justice بماto what
وهي ليسَت تَفي بما
فيهماin them both منof محامدِpraiseworthy qualities
فيهما من محامدِ
yet they do not do justice to
And it does not suffice what
the praiseworthy qualities in them both.
Praises are in them
لاnot يزالانcease (the two of them) يعدياthey both bestow (continued)
لا يزالان يعديا
نending completing the preceding dual verb علىupon كلِّevery قاصدِseeker
ن على كلِّ قاصدِ
They never cease bestowing
They still excel
upon every seeker
Every poet
كلُّevery صنفٍkind منof الندىbounty
كلُّ صنفٍ من الندى
إنif مضىhe departs غيرُnot عائدِreturning
إن مضى غيرُ عائدِ
every kind of bounty,
Every type of dew
even if he departs, never to return.
If it passes, it does not return
