لاmay … not رَعىprotect اللَّهُGod عزمةًa resolve ضمِنَتpromised ليto me
لا رَعى اللَّهُ عزمةً ضمِنَت لي
سلوةًrelief from longing عنهُfor him فيin الترحُّلdeparting عنهُfrom him
سلوةً عنهُ في الترحُّل عنهُ
May God not bless a resolve that promised me
May God not protect the resolve that promised me
God does not tend determination that promised me
solace from him by journeying away from him.

ماnot وَفَتkept its promise غيرَexcept for لَيلةٍone night ثمَّthen صارَتit became
ما وَفَت غيرَ لَيلةٍ ثمَّ صارَت
مثلَlike قَلبيmy heart تقولُit says لابدَّthere is no escape مِنهُfrom him
مثلَ قَلبي تقولُ لابدَّ مِنهُ
It lasted no more than a single night, then became
It kept its promise for only one night, then became
It did not keep except one night, then it became
like my heart, saying: I cannot do without him.
