طالَ هذا النسيانُ لولا التَناسي

طالَ هذا النسيانُ لولا التَناسي

والتَّناسي أدناهُما في قِياسي

والتَّناسي أدناهُما في قِياسي

This forgetfulness would have lasted long, were it not for feigned forgetting;

This forgetfulness has lasted too long were it not for remembering

And feigned forgetting is the likelier of the two in my reckoning.

And remembering is the lesser of two in my estimation

ولعَمري لَقد نَظرتُ بنورِ ال

ولعَمري لَقد نَظرتُ بنورِ ال

لَّهِ أهلاً بذلك الاقتباسِ

لَّهِ أهلاً بذلك الاقتباسِ

And by my life, I have indeed seen by the light of

By my life, I have looked with the light of God

God, worthy of that borrowing of light.

At people worthy of that quotation

أنا لَو أنَّني من الناسِ عندَ ال

أنا لَو أنَّني من الناسِ عندَ ال

لَّهِ ما عِشتُ بعدَ مَوتِ الناسِ

لَّهِ ما عِشتُ بعدَ مَوتِ الناسِ

As for me, had I been among people in the sight of

If I were among people with God

God, I would not have lived on after the people's death.

I would not live after people's death
