دَنِفٍ نهبَ وُلوعٍ وغَرام
Who will aid a lover, maddened by love for you,
For one enamored by you I weep,
ailing, prey to infatuation and passion?
Yearning, burning, in the depths of despair.
فعلىso upon خَدّيmy cheek ماwhat تسقيwaters الحياthe rain

وعلى جسميَ ثوب من سقام
So upon my cheek is what the rain waters,
My cheeks are flooded by the tears I cry,
and upon my body, a garment of sickness.
My garb is ragged from my sorrow and care.

مستهلّ القطر منهل الغمام
So may you be drenched with an abundance of my tears,
I shed copious tears like rain in Spring,
with pouring raindrops and clouds streaming down.
As heavy clouds let fall their watery wear.

Tears I have never ceased to spill,
Ceaselessly down my cheeks the raindrops pour,
until they relieve a little of my burning thirst.
My eyes a wellspring that knows no repair.

A sigh I repeated flared up
My sighs blaze wildly in my broken heart,
in the lover's breast with the fiercest blaze.
Consuming me, fanned by passion's hot air.

Do you now know, after you destroyed me,
that after your departure mine is the lament of doves?
That I am left with only sad despair?

that unveiled the visage of the full moon.
That shone like the full moon gleaming bright and fair.

In longing's torment lies what you have left
Naught remains within my burning heart but pain
of my heart, amid passion and infatuation.
And passion and love that you planted there.

You took my soul that followed you always,

It never found peace or safety from your snare.

Say to the one whose arrow pierced my soul,
and a bowman among the herd's hunters shot it.
Though forbidden in this holy time and rare.

Often when your name was mentioned, my love,
Who made hunting lawful in the sacred month?
My thin frame shook in remembrance of your care.

I have sometimes had no need of any wine.
Between the meadows and the mountains bare.

My days in the valley of grief are naught
and the radiant faces in those tents?
But a dream now vanished into empty air.

My dear ones whom I loved are now gone,

Scattered by fate, flown to places far and rare.

I'll not forget the joy of life and love,
and far-off lands struck them with their afflictions.
The wine that glowed like fire made with care.

Victims of time, lost in its endless snare.

Their words were pearls perfectly aligned,

Well-ordered like strands in a necklace fair.

Woe to poetry that gets no regard
that, after union, came to severance.

fled thereafter as ostriches flee.
only arrows and swords for strife and warfare.

Alas for poetry, which finds no favor
Yet if poetry finds those who merit it,
in an age of ignorance and ignoble men.
It blends with their praise in harmony rare.

These verses have come down to me from One
and for others, poisons like arrows.
Exalted in Might, of utmost Glory and Care!

or if he strikes, he is mighty, taking vengeance.
From these noble souls, by their mercy and care.

Known to us from the lines of Sam and Ham.

The masters of men, leaders beyond compare.

then they are their towering pillars.
Clean water to slake the thirst of one impaired.

None can outdo you in fulfilling hopes and prayer.

my aim does not pass beyond you to water.

With praises at the start and end, with utmost care.
