This is the ship; “Opening of Good” is the name she bears.
This is the ship; Fath al-Khayr is her byname.
This ship is named "Opener of Good"
Rejoice—for her glad tidings of good things are glad tidings for you.
So rejoice, for her glad tidings are tidings of blessings for you.
So rejoice, for it brings you blessings galore
اليمنُgood fortune واليُسرُand ease فيat أطرافهاher sides اقترناthe two came together
فاليمنُso good fortune واليسرُand ease يمناهاher right side ويسراهاand her left side
Good fortune and ease are joined at her two ends;
Good fortune and ease have come together at her sides.
Good omens adorn its sides equally
good fortune and ease are her right side and her left.
So good fortune and ease are her right side and her left.
Bringing favor and ease alike in its store
سلمانُSalman لماwhen اشتراهاhe bought her حينat a time when لمhad not يرهاseen her
وأقْبَلَتْand she arrived أعْجَبَتْshe delighted بالحسنwith beauty منwhoever راهاsaw her
When Salman bought her, before he had seen her,
When Salman bought her, not yet having seen her,
When Suleiman saw it, though not before
then she arrived, her beauty delighted all who saw her.
and she arrived, her beauty delighted whoever saw her.
He bought it, amazed by its beauty so pure
سفائِنُships البَحرof the sea إنif سابقنهاthey race her سَبَقتْshe outstrips them
وجاوَزَتْand she passes ثَمّthere أولاهاtheir foremost بأخراهاwith her stern
Should the ships of the sea race her, she outstrips them,
If the ships of the sea race her, she outstrips them,
Ships racing the seas try to reach the shore
and there, with her stern, she passes the foremost of them.
and there she passes their foremost with her stern.
But it surpasses them all, of this be sure
فإنso if جَرَيْنَthey sail وإنand if أرَّخْتَهُنَّyou record their date فقلْthen say
تجريshe sails وأصبحَand has become باسمin the name of اللهGod مجراهاher course
So if they sail—and if you set their date in verse—say:
So if they sail, and if you record their date, then say:
If sailing or anchored, say this verse
“She sails, and her course has come to be in the name of God.”
She sails, and her course is now in God's name.
"In God's name" - and safe passage will endure
