Our nights upon al-Jar'a, return,
Our nights in the place of Al-Jar'aa, return
With the life of old, for the stricken lover.
With the life of the past, to the dignified young man,

Where the abodes of loved ones flourish,
And union is strung like ordered pearls.
And the gathering is like threaded pearls,

And upon those dwellings—may it never pass them by—
And in those abodes, nothing else,
Rain pours down from thunder-bearing clouds.
A living life that drinks from the same lightning,

Theaters where passion is heated,
Though they are the resting places of lions.
Even if they are the dens of lions,

Attached by the love of Qais for Layla,
Antelope passing in herds, a flock of graceful maidens.

Like the yearning of the bereaved for the lost.
The yearning of those who lost upon the lost one,

And they delight us with that song.
