Into God’s mercy he passed and departed—
Into God's mercy he passed and came to his end—
In the mercy of God he passed away and was gone
a noble lord of high standing among mankind.
A noble leader of standing among humankind.
A man who had glory among people

He had been glory’s towering mountain, until there fell
He had been glory's mountain, until down fell
He was the pillar of glory until it collapsed
with him—to glory’s grief—its very pillars.
His pillars, despite his glory.
Despite his glory, its pillars fell

He died a martyr; so upon his soul
He died a martyr; so may his soul receive
He died a martyr, so his soul
be pardon and forgiveness from his Lord.
Pardon and forgiveness from his Lord.
Has pardon and forgiveness from his Lord

How many a people of formidable might have passed away,
And how many mighty peoples have passed away,
And how many people passed who had greatness
until it seemed those people had never been.
Until it was as though those peoples had never been.
As if those people never existed

The son of Ghannam died, so I memorialized him
“Solomon has departed into eternity.”
“Into eternity Sulayman has gone.”
In eternity went Solomon
