He appeared, giving his first cry, proclaiming glad tidings.

He hastens the fulfillment of joy, yet defers it.

And from that face a radiance shone upon us.

He is the full moon, except that he is not eclipsed.

Over him; as for his being, it is a unified whole.

He delights the eye of beholders with a radiance

That reveals what is otherwise unknown about his essence.

The mouth of delight smiled when he came into being,

As potent, tawny wine smiled in the cup.

We read upon him lines of good fortune,

Whose letters are drawn from the meanings of that beauty.

He resembles his father in all his fine qualities,

And is described in the terms by which his father is described.

So blessed be the newborn, and blessed be the father:

Through him remembrance endures, and virtues are carried on.

And in Rajab he arrived with goodness, so they announced

His birth, as gladness then lent its aid.

    يُقَرِّط آذانَ المنى ويشنّف

    And with his first cry he made himself heard by every ear;

He adorns the ears of hope with earrings and pendants.

And for that birth, record the date with our words:

Amid rejoicing, Sulayman Asif was born.
