Can I say of my condition when you see it?
When they ask your gifts to water them?

إذا هي تستسقي نداك سقاها
It is only a soul worn thin by thirst;
If not for your gentleness that would suffice me
When it asks your bounty for drink, your bounty waters it.
The harbingers of my fortune would hardly stir or roam.

Unless you rescue me with your kindness, scarcely will
May you have the full rewards of bounty from a benefactor
The first signs of my fortune ever come my way.
Whose hopes called him and he answered the call!

May the rewards of goodness repay you, a benefactor
For in an age not devoid of you and your people,
Whom hopes called, and who answered their call.
You were suited to sublime traits and possessed them.

You, in an age—may its people never lack you—
You spread through it pages of generosity and dew
Threadbare in character, emptied of goodness [wording uncertain],
And after you enfolded and concealed it.

Have spread within it the pages of noble deeds and bounty,
And that after it had wrapped and folded them away.
