Turn away from whoever persists in gossip and hearsay.
Turn away from those embroiled in saying and telling,
I do not listen to the reproacher's words.
I do not listen to the words of the fickle.

And recall for me those whose love held firm,
through his lowered gaze and ailing body.
Made sick by yearning, emaciated in body.

Refuge is there for me in patience from a fair face?

Love-sick: were it not for love's torments,
A fawn whom, were it not for the wounds of passion,
yearning would not have condemned him to wasting.
Wasting sickness would not have worn him down.

The passion of the lover for his beloved.
