يا قبرُ هَلْ عَلِمْتَ مَن ضَمَمْتَهُ

يا قبرُ هَلْ عَلِمْتَ مَن ضَمَمْتَهُ

ومَنْ عَليه تنطوي جَوانحُكْ

ومَنْ عَليه تنطوي جَوانحُكْ

O grave, do you know whom you have embraced,

O grave, do you know whom you have embraced,

and over whom your sides have closed?

And over whom your ribs fold?

مَن صالحُ أعمالُه مضيئةٌ

مَن صالحُ أعمالُه مضيئةٌ

تضيءُ من أضوائها مصابحُكْ

تضيءُ من أضوائها مصابحُكْ

Ṣāliḥ—his deeds shine radiant,

Salih, whose deeds are radiant—

and from their radiance your lamps take light.

Your lamps shine with their light.

فإنَّ في بطنك خيرَ ماجدٍ

فإنَّ في بطنك خيرَ ماجدٍ

قد وُضِعَتْ من فوقها صفائِحُكْ

قد وُضِعَتْ من فوقها صفائِحُكْ

For within your depths lies the noblest of men;

For within your belly lies the finest of noble men;

your slabs have been laid above it.

Above it your stone slabs have been laid.

وأَنْتَ من طيب عَبير نَشْرِهِ

وأَنْتَ من طيب عَبير نَشْرِهِ

تَنْفَحُ من طيب الشَّذا نوافِحُكْ

تَنْفَحُ من طيب الشَّذا نوافِحُكْ

And from the sweetness of his wafted perfume,

And you, from his fragrance's sweet perfume—

your breezes breathe forth fragrant sweetness.

Your breezes waft sweet scent.

ولا تزال والإِله راحمٌ

ولا تزال والإِله راحمٌ

في رحمة الله الَّتي تصافِحُكْ

في رحمة الله الَّتي تصافِحُكْ

And you shall ever remain—for God is merciful—

And you remain, while God is merciful,

within the mercy of God that enfolds you.

In God's mercy, which clasps your hand.

قَدْ حَلَّ من بعد الوفاة ثاوياً

قَدْ حَلَّ من بعد الوفاة ثاوياً

أَرِّخْ بجنَّات الخلود صالحُكْ

أَرِّخْ بجنَّات الخلود صالحُكْ

After death he has come to dwell here.

After death he has settled, abiding—

Mark the date: “In gardens of eternity is your Ṣāliḥ.”

Record the date: in the gardens of eternity is your Salih.
