ولمّا قَضَتَ منِّي الحياةُ مآرباً

ولمّا قَضَتَ منِّي الحياةُ مآرباً

وقد تركوني في المقابر أعْظُما

وقد تركوني في المقابر أعْظُما

And when life had gained from me all that it desired,

And when life had fulfilled its purposes through me,

And they had left me among the graves as bones,

And they had left me in the graves as bones,

وقالوا قضى نحباً وسار لربّه

وقالوا قضى نحباً وسار لربّه

وماتَ بحمد الله إذ مات مسلما

وماتَ بحمد الله إذ مات مسلما

They said, “He has met his destined death and journeyed to his Lord;

And they said, “He met his death and went to his Lord,

And died—praise be to God—died a Muslim.”

And he died—praise be to God—for he died a Muslim.”

ومن عَبَد الرحمن سبعين حجةً

ومن عَبَد الرحمن سبعين حجةً

لقى الله باريه أبرَّ وأرحما

لقى الله باريه أبرَّ وأرحما

For whoever worshipped the All-Merciful for seventy years

And whoever has worshipped the Most Merciful for seventy years

Shall meet God, his Maker, the most gracious, the most merciful.

Will meet God, his Creator, most benevolent and most merciful.
