إنَّ هذا قبرٌ لعمرك فيه

صالحٌ في حياته والمماتِ

صالحٌ في حياته والمماتِ

Indeed, by your life, this is a grave wherein

Indeed, this is a grave—by your life—within it lies

This is indeed the grave of your life in it

lies Ṣāliḥ—righteous in his life and in death:

Salih, righteous in his life and in death.

Righteous in his life and death

صالح الاسم صالح الفعل يفنى

صالح الاسم صالح الفعل يفنى

وله الباقيات في الصَّالحات

وله الباقيات في الصَّالحات

Ṣāliḥ by name and righteous in deed; he passes away,

Salih in name, righteous in deed, he perishes,

Righteous is his name, righteous are his deeds, he passes away

but his are the deeds that endure among righteous works,

yet his enduring good deeds remain:

And for him are the everlasting deeds among the righteous

من خلالٍ كريمةٍ وصفاتٍ

من خلالٍ كريمةٍ وصفاتٍ

شَهِدَتْ أنَّه كريمُ الذَّات

شَهِدَتْ أنَّه كريمُ الذَّات

through noble virtues and qualities

noble traits and qualities

Through noble and descriptive qualities

that testified to his nobility of soul.

that attest to his noble nature.

That testified that he has a noble essence

أَدْرَكَتْهُ الوفاة إذ هو حيٌّ

أَدْرَكَتْهُ الوفاة إذ هو حيٌّ

فتوفّي وذاك بعد الوفاة

فتوفّي وذاك بعد الوفاة

Death overtook him while he was yet alive,

so he died—and that came after death.

حلَّ في جنَّة النعيم فأَرِّخْ

صالح قد حَلَلْتَ في الجنَّات

صالح قد حَلَلْتَ في الجنَّات

He entered the Garden of Bliss; so inscribe its date:

He came to dwell in the Garden of Bliss; so record the date:

He settled in the Paradise of bliss, so say

“Ṣāliḥ, you have taken up residence in the Gardens.”

Salih, you have indeed come to dwell in the Gardens.

O righteous one, you have settled in Paradise
