بشرى لنا في ولدٍ بوجهه

أبدى مبادي كرم الأَخلاقِ

أبدى مبادي كرم الأَخلاقِ

Glad tidings for us of a son whose face

revealed the first signs of noble character.

ولا عجيب لذكي مُنجَبٍ

ولا عجيب لذكي مُنجَبٍ

من أطيب الآصال والأَعراق

من أطيب الآصال والأَعراق

Nor is this surprising in a bright, well-born child,

of the finest roots and bloodlines.

أبوه من فاقَ الورى بعلمهِ

أبوه من فاقَ الورى بعلمهِ

وفاقَ بالفضلِ على الآفاق

وفاقَ بالفضلِ على الآفاق

His father is one who surpassed humankind through his learning,

and surpassed the horizons in excellence.

بحرٌ يفيض جوهراً ونائلاً

بحرٌ يفيض جوهراً ونائلاً

وباسط الكفَّين للإِنفاق

وباسط الكفَّين للإِنفاق

A sea overflowing with jewels and bounty,

and one who stretches out both palms to give.

لدى الأنام جوده وفضله

لدى الأنام جوده وفضله

أضحى على الأَفهام والأَعناق

أضحى على الأَفهام والأَعناق

Among humankind, his generosity and excellence

now rest upon minds and necks.

تلك أياديه الَّتي يبذلها

تلك أياديه الَّتي يبذلها

كانت على الأَعناق كالأَطواق

كانت على الأَعناق كالأَطواق

Those favors of his that he bestows

have been like collars around necks.

بشارة إذ جاء قد أرَّختها

بشارة إذ جاء قد أرَّختها

فجاءت البشرى بعبد الباقي

فجاءت البشرى بعبد الباقي

When he arrived, I recorded the date of these glad tidings:

So the glad tidings came with ʿAbd al-Bāqī.
