One day I recalled love at the bend of al-Liwa,

And the yearning heart must turn there to remembrance.

And may a downpour rain generously upon their reaches.

And bless with cloud-borne rain a dwelling in the camp,

Where lingering stirrings of chaste love give me my excuse.

And those days of ours that passed in togetherness—

Though they are over, they have not passed from my thoughts.

What pours from my eyes is far from scant.

A grievous, searing flame hotter than embers.

So it stirred the heart's sorrows, unknowing.

When I banish humiliation from a dwelling,

I leave the bearing of oppression there to others.
