    Ah, who will convey on my behalf to Ibn Shibli

    Messages containing disgrace and shame?

    ويوماً شمّريٌّ مستعار

    A Qasimi one day—may you lose your reason—

    And another day, a borrowed Shammari;

    And a jinn whenever night falls,

    And a human when daylight shines.

    You departed, turning your back in deceit and baseness,

    So the dust could not catch up with you on your way,

    Just as the donkey went off with Umm Amr—

    So may neither she nor the donkey return.
