A poem from you came to us from al-Zawra.
A poem came to us from you, from Zawra’
It came with verses, charming and sweet.
It came with verses that gently torment
فَسرَّتso it delighted عُيونَthe eyes of الناظرينthe beholders وشنَّفَتand adorned

It delighted the beholders’ eyes and adorned
The eyes of onlookers rejoiced and refreshed
the ears of masters of excellence with its words.
The hearing of people of perfection with discourse
وأصْبَحتِand became الفيحاءal-Fayha مفتخراًa source of pride بهاthrough it

And al-Fayha became a source of pride through it,
And Fayha took pride in it
and it revealed wonders to the discerning.
And showed the knowing ones wonder

It has not ceased to be recited to every person of merit,
It did not cease to be recited to every gentleman
and lifts a veil from the face of beauty.
And unveils the face of beauty from concealment

So may you be rewarded with good, my lord, for now
So I reward you, my lord, with goodness, for your hands
your favors to me abound in kindness.
Have become desirable to me in beauty

You pass among souls a thirst-quenching cup,
They offer souls a cup of drink
so we drink from it a draught that goes down easily.
From which we drink what renders drinking lawful

And you stirred my longings for you and my burning yearning;
They excited my longing for you and my ardor
and here I am in its midst, resolved to return.
And here I am, resolved through it to return

From this day onward, aboard every vessel I shall send
After today I will send in every ship
my greetings to you, coming and going.
My greetings to you, coming and going

And praise of you engrosses me; nor was
Praising you preoccupies me, and my silence
my silence about that reply itself a reply.
About that was not an answer

And had you known what kept me away from you,
If you knew what distracted me from you
you would have excused me and offered no reproach of your own.
You would pardon, and not direct blame from you
