وَلَدٌa child قدindeed أشرَقَshone الكونُthe universe بهthrough him
وَلَدٌ قد أشرَقَ الكونُ به
مِنْfrom عُلىexalted glory سلطانناour Sultan عبدAbd (servant of) الحميدal-Hamid (the Praiseworthy)
مِنْ عُلى سلطاننا عبد الحميد
A child through whom the universe has shone,
A child has illuminated the universe for us
From the exalted glory of our Sultan Abd al-Hamid.

بُشِّرَwas given glad tidings الإِسلامIslam فيat مولدهhis birth
بُشِّرَ الإِسلام في مولده
فأسرَّso gladdened الناسthe people منbecause of هذاthis السعيدfortunate one
فأسرَّ الناس من هذا السعيد
Islam received glad tidings at his birth,
Islam was gladdened by his birth
And the people were gladdened by this fortunate child.
And people rejoiced at this blessing
فزهتso grew splendid بغدادBaghdad حتَّىto the point that إنَّهاindeed she
فزهت بغداد حتَّى إنَّها
قابلتrivaled أيَّامthe days of هارونHarun الرشيدal-Rashid (the Rightly Guided)
قابلت أيَّام هارون الرشيد
So Baghdad grew so splendid that she
Baghdad became radiant, as if
Rivaled the days of Harun al-Rashid.
It had returned to Harun al-Rashid's days
وغدتand became تشرقshining منfrom أنوارهhis lights
وغدت تشرق من أنواره
مثلماjust as قدindeed أشرقshone البدرthe full moon بعيدon a feast day
مثلما قد أشرق البدر بعيد
And she came to shine with his radiance,
And it began to gleam with his lights
Just as the full moon has shone on a feast day.
As the full moon gleams from afar
زادناgave us more بشراًgladness فزدناso we grew طرباًrapture
زادنا بشراً فزدنا طرباً
ماnot عليهbeyond it قبلbefore هذاthis منany مزيدfurther increase
ما عليه قبل هذا من مزيد
He increased our gladness, and we grew in rapture;
He brought us good news, so our joy increased
Never before had there been anything greater.
Beyond what we had before
قدindeed حباناbestowed upon us اللهGod فيat مولدهhis birth
قد حبانا الله في مولده
كلّall ماthat which نهواهwe desire it منof عزٍّglory مديدenduring
كلّ ما نهواه من عزٍّ مديد
God has granted us, at his birth,
God has granted us through his birth
All the enduring glory we desire.
All the lasting glory we desired
فتراناso you see us دائماًalways فيin فرجrelief
فترانا دائماً في فرج
كلّevery يومday نحنُwe فيin عيدٍa festival جديدnew
كلّ يوم نحنُ في عيدٍ جديد
So you see us always enjoying relief;
So we remain continually in celebration
Every day is a new festival for us.
Each day for us is a new feast
وإذاand when الكونthe universe أضاshone أرَّختهI marked its date
وإذا الكون أضا أرَّخته
فضياءthus the radiance الكونof the universe منfrom عبدAbd (servant of) الحميدal-Hamid (the Praiseworthy)
فضياء الكون من عبد الحميد
And when the universe shone, I marked its date:
And if the universe were to date itself
Thus the universe's radiance comes from Abd al-Hamid.
It would date itself from Abdulhamid
