قالوا نراك عن الأكابر تعرض

وسواك زوّارٌ لهم متعرّض

They said, “We see you turning away from the great,

while others visit them often, seeking their favor.”

قلت الزيارة للزمان إضاعةٌ

وإذا مضى زمنٌ فما يتعوّض

وإذا مضى زمنٌ فما يتعوّض

I said, “Visiting is a waste of time,

and once time has passed, it cannot be regained.

إن كان لي يوماً إليهم حاجةٌ

إن كان لي يوماً إليهم حاجةٌ

فبقدر ما ضمن القضاء تقيّض

فبقدر ما ضمن القضاء تقيّض

If ever I have need of them,

it will be met to the extent that fate has decreed.”
