O Abu al-Muzaffar, you are the chosen one for guidance

in the latter age, with knowledge of its experience.

For had Umar seen you, when you had attained the heights,

on the hilltop, he would have exhausted the full measure of his tears.

And had he seen you, with Jerusalem's people distraught,

Abu Ubayda would have offered himself as ransom in his joy,

and wailed, forcing tears, around its Rock.

the Companions' covenant, so that his faith endures.

And you, true to your name, are a paragon of truth, and his companion, the

King al-Muzaffar, is exalted in his beneficence.

And among the three is Uthman, upheld

by Ali's eminence, in preferring to aid him.

And how many kinsmen with you have risen to honor!

And how many a distant man has found nearness through his migration!

the king of the Franks, captive amid his kindred.

Have you not seen Yusuf's glorious deeds fall into order,

until they struck every ruler with his own regret?

By day his course is conquest for spreading guidance,

and by night he overwhelms the foes, sealing his frontier's breach.

And he deemed the defilement loathsome, afflicted by the sight of it,

so he conquered Jerusalem, crowded with its throng.

Yet the might of Salah al-Din stunned them

through the battle on the hill and his mounting fury.

He comprehends the birds of prey and the horsemen, while he remains at

the outset of his vigor, as fresh at evening as in his early morning.

O conqueror of al-Aqsa Mosque, bring them to me,

and hunter of the countless army with his pounce!

Rejoice in a dominion rising like the sun at noon

over the earth, winning conquests as it spreads,

until this faith has an epic battle

which prophecy recounts in the days of its lull.
