So wisdom is the least prized thing to an ignorant man,

and a virtuous man the least esteemed thing to an oppressor.

فلو زفت الحسناء للذئب لم يكن

فلو زفت الحسناء للذئب لم يكن

يرى قربها إلا لأكل المعاصم

يرى قربها إلا لأكل المعاصم

So if a beautiful woman were wed to a wolf, he would not

regard her nearness as anything but a means to eat her wrists.
