Turn aside with me—may I be your ransom—to Dummar’s broad, pebbled valleys,
Oh how I wish I were with you in the gardens of Damascus
Turn with me—may I be your ransom—to the wide valleys of Dummar,
With their lush, blossoming gardens,
With its blossoming meadows full of vitality
Possessed of meadows, blooming and radiant,

As if from the river of paradise
As though drawn from the waters of the River Kawthar.

Frees you from need of civet or pungent musk.

And the birds within its groves are chanting
With a mellow voice surpassing a lute’s melody.
With soft voices surpassing those of singers
With a mellow voice outdoing the melody of a lute.

A retreat whose splendor shines with its devotees,
Bringing joy to ascetics, uplifting their state
An abode where ascetics dwell, their spirits thriving
Between invocations and contemplation.
Among invocations and contemplations
Between recitations of praise and deep contemplation.

Whatever pious man you find in it
There you may find whomever you wish: a devout hermit,
Or a libertine, ever varying in his recklessness.
Or warrior in the peak of strength
Or a bold spirit, masterfully skilled in his daring.

If you compare them fairly to Damascus
If you were to judge them fairly against Dummar?
