So this is the poetry collection of our noble master,
This is the poetry collection of our generous master,
Behold, this is the poetic collection of our noble master,
Abd al-Karim, descendant of the Chosen One,
Descendant of Mustafa, Abdul Karim.
The descendant of the Chosen One, Abd al-Karim.
منamong اللائيthose whom تطيعهمobey them القوافيthe rhymes
وتنقادand submit انقياداًin submission كالغريمlike a debtor
One of those whom rhymes obey,
Whose verses obey him readily,
One of those whom rhymes rightfully obey,
And to whom they yield with a debtor's submission.
And yield like a close friend.
Yielding to him completely like a submissive debtor.
وتألفهمand befriend them معانٍmeanings شارداتٌwandering
دقيقاتٌsubtle أرقmore delicate منthan النسيمthe breeze
And wandering meanings befriend them,
Bringing together estranged meanings,
To whom elusive meanings flock with familiarity,
Subtle, more delicate than the breeze.
Subtleties gentler than a breeze.
Subtle nuances, gentler than the softest breeze.
لهاfor them فيin قلبthe heart of سامعهاtheir listener دبيبٌa gentle creeping
دبيبthe creeping of البرءhealing فيin ذاتthe body of السقيمthe ailing one
They creep softly within their listener's heart,
With a stir in the heart of their listener,
They creep into the heart of the listener,
As healing creeps through the ailing person's body.
The stir of innocence within the sick.
Like the creeping of a cure through a sick body.
وتطربand delight منwhoever يفرflees منfrom المثانيthe lute strings
وترقصand set dancing منwhoever يكدّرis vexed بالنديمby the boon companion
And delight whoever shuns the lute's strings,
Exciting those who shun conventions,
Enchanting even the one who flees from melodies,
And make whoever is vexed by a boon companion dance.
And stirring those saddened by companions.
And making the sullen companion dance with joy.

When they wield their reed pens, they bring forth magic—
When they shake the banner they bring magic
When they shake the reed pen, they bring forth magic,
Men of clear expression and sound natural talent.
Of eloquence and natural talent.
Masters of clear eloquence and sound nature.

And if they brandish spears and unsheathe swords,
And if they brandish swords and lances,
And if they brandish spears and unsheathe swords,
Their enemies are left like dry, broken stalks.
Their weapons remain like debris.
Their enemies are left as scattered chaff.

وماand no شهمnoble-hearted man لفضلby excellence بالسليمunscathed
I read his words and wept in sorrow,
I looked upon his words and wept in sorrow,
I gazed upon his words and wept in sorrow,
And no noble-hearted man is unmoved by excellence.
Not valuing the flawless and pure.
For no gallant man is immune to the grief of lost virtue.

And yet my tears are soothed
But the dwelling of tears is from me,
Yet what stills the flowing tears within me,
By their son and their pride, Salim:
For their son and pride, Saleem.
Is his son and their pride, Salim.

To the sons of Hashim his lineage has been traced
To the sons of Hashim he was born,
Traced back to the very sons of Hashim,
By men of noble ancestry and far-reaching honor.
Of noble lineage and vast glory.
Possessors of ancestral merit and all-encompassing honor.
فذخريso my treasure حبّهمlove for them عندat احتياجيmy need
ولاand not يغنيcan avail حميمa dear friend عنon behalf of حميمa dear friend
So my love for them is my treasure when I am in need,
So hoard their love when I'm in need,
So my treasure is my love for them in my hour of need,
And no dear friend can avail another.
For no intimate can aid an intimate.
The Day when no close friend can avail another friend.
