اللّهGod أعلمknows best أنّthat هذاthis لمdid not يكنbe
اللّه أعلم أنّ هذا لم يكن
منيfrom me علىof الأمدthe time span الطويلlong دليلاa sign
مني على الأمد الطويل دليلا
God knows best that this was not
God knows this was not
God knows best that this was never meant
on my part, a sign of a long life.
From me for the long term evident
By me to serve as a guide for the long age;
كلّاNo indeed وإنand indeed منيّتيmy death لقريبةٌsurely near
كلّا وإن منيّتي لقريبةٌ
منّيto me وأصبحand I shall be فيin الترابthe dust جديلاprostrate
منّي وأصبح في التراب جديلا
No indeed; my death is surely near
No, though my death is near
Nay, for indeed my death is drawing near,
to me, and I shall lie prostrate in the dust.
To me, and I will soon be but dust
And I shall soon become laid low within the dust.
ورضاand the pleasure الإلهof God هوit المنىthe hopes ويكونand there shall be منfrom
ورضا الإله هو المنى ويكون من
بعديafter me انتفاعbenefit الخلقpeople ثمّthere طويلاfor a long time
بعدي انتفاع الخلق ثمّ طويلا
And God's pleasure is my desire; and there shall be
God's pleasure is what I seek and after
The pleasure of the Lord is my desire, and that there be
after me, long-lasting benefit for people there.
Me will be benefit for mankind enduring
After I am gone, a benefit for the people that endures.
