My dear friend, tell me how you have fared this evening; I
My dear friend, tell me: how have you fared this eve? For I
Have borne grief on your account that would overwhelm Radwa.
Have borne a grief for your sake that would weary Mount Radwa.

لشكواكمbecause of your complaint ياoh ليتif only لاnot كانتthere had been الشكوىthe complaint
Our souls and our bodies have indeed fallen ill
Our souls and our bodies have surely fallen ill
Because of your complaint—oh, if only there had been no complaint!
At your suffering—oh, would that such suffering had never been!
فلاso do not تبغِseek إتلافيmy destruction فماfor there is no ليfor me طاقةٌstrength
علىfor الصبرpatience ياO روحيmy soul ولستand I am not لهfor it أقوىstrong enough
So do not seek my destruction, for I have no strength
So do not seek my ruin, for I possess no power
To be patient, O my soul, nor am I strong enough for it.
To bear patience, O my soul, nor have I strength to endure.

And I do hope for God's blessing of healing
And verily I beseech God’s grace for a cure
Upon you, so that you may enjoy happiness as you wish.
Upon you, that you may attain the joy you so desire.
