كلمات حروفها الأجسامُ

والمعاني أرواحهنّ القيامُ

والمعاني أرواحهنّ القيامُ

Words whose letters are bodies,

Words are bodies formed of letters

And meanings are their subsisting spirits,

And meanings are the souls that fill their frames

صادرات عن الإله تعالى

صادرات عن الإله تعالى

يتبدى بها الضيا والظلام

يتبدى بها الضيا والظلام

Issuing forth from God, exalted is He;

Uttered by God on high

Through them, light and darkness appear.

By which the dark and light appear

وهو الله لا سواه أتانا

وهو الله لا سواه أتانا

بل أتاه منه إليه الكلام

بل أتاه منه إليه الكلام

And He is God; none other came to us.

None but God, there is no other

Rather, speech came to Him, from Him, unto Him.

Though speech itself comes solely from His name

أين أنتم يا غافلون فأنتم

أين أنتم يا غافلون فأنتم

أحرفٌ قاذفاتها الأقلام

أحرفٌ قاذفاتها الأقلام

Where are you, O heedless ones? For you are

Where are you, o heedless ones, for you

Letters cast forth by the pens,

Are but bare letters penned by hands

لا معاني لها حروف هجاء

لا معاني لها حروف هجاء

يترجى لعلمهنَّ الغلام

يترجى لعلمهنَّ الغلام

Having no meanings—letters of the alphabet,

No meaning do you hold, mere vowel signs

Which a boy hopes to learn.

A child could give you sense and aim

فتنتكم ظواهر الكون حتى

فتنتكم ظواهر الكون حتى

غاب عنكم معناه وهو المرام

غاب عنكم معناه وهو المرام

The outward forms of the universe beguiled you, until

Distracted thus by surfaces you roam

Its meaning became hidden from you, though it is the goal.

Forgetting truth, the purpose you must claim

فاستقيموا بربكم في هداه

فاستقيموا بربكم في هداه

ذلك الحق تعرفوا والسلام

ذلك الحق تعرفوا والسلام

So stand upright through your Lord, in His guidance;

So take the straight path shown by your Lord

You will know that truth. And peace.

In guidance know the truth, and peace.
