Turn aside to the mountain's foot in the environs of Najd.
Wander through the foothills of Najd
And tell of my condition, and speak of my passionate longing.

فيin اليقظةwakefulness لاnot أرىI see عسىperhaps فيin نوميmy sleep
في اليقظة لا أرى عسى في نومي
منfrom جانبهمtheir side طيفapparition خيالvision يجديis of benefit
من جانبهم طيف خيال يجدي
While awake I do not see them; perhaps in my sleep
Awake, I see nothing, perhaps in my dreams
a phantom vision from their side will avail me.
A ghostly vision might bring relief
