إلي الذات سيري في مراتب أسماءِ
بصورةin the form of مزجmingling النارthe fire فيَّwithin me معwith الماءِthe water
بصورة مزج النار فيَّ مع الماءِ
Toward the Essence, journey through the ranks of Names,
My journey is toward the Essence through the ranks of names,
as fire is mingled within me with water.
In the form of fire mingled within me with water.
أناI الهيكلthe temple المجموعassembled منfrom كلevery حضرةpresence
أنا الهيكل المجموع من كل حضرة
مقدسةsacred كالبدرlike the full moon فيin جنحthe depths of night ظلماءa dark night
مقدسة كالبدر في جنح ظلماء
I am the form gathered from every Presence,
I am the temple assembled from every presence,
each sacred as the full moon in the heart of darkness.
Sacred, like the full moon in the depths of a dark night.
ألمتshe came بناto us ذاتshe of البراقعthe veils والورىand humankind
ألمت بنا ذات البراقع والورى
نيامasleep فأبدتthen she revealed وجههاher face بعدafter إخفاءconcealment
نيام فأبدت وجهها بعد إخفاء
The Lady of Veils alighted among us while creation
She of the veils came to us, while humankind
lay asleep; then she revealed her face after concealment.
Lay asleep; then she revealed her face after concealment.
أماطتshe drew aside وكناand we were بالعشيin the evening لثامَهاher veil
أماطت وكنا بالعشي لثامَها
فأصبحتso were by morning الأنوارthe lights تشرقshine للرائيfor the beholder
فأصبحت الأنوار تشرق للرائي
She swept aside her face-veil while we were in the dusk,
She drew aside her veil while evening was upon us;
and the lights dawned, shining for the beholder.
So by morning the lights were shining for the beholder.
إذاif كانتwere الأكوانthe worlds آثارtraces فعلهاher action
إذا كانت الأكوان آثار فعلها
نقولwe say تجلتshe manifested herself بالدواءthrough remedy وبالداءand through disease
نقول تجلت بالدواء وبالداء
If all created worlds are traces of her action,
If the worlds are traces of her action,
we say she manifested in remedy and in illness.
We say: she manifested herself through remedy and disease.
ألاbehold إنهاindeed she غيبthe unseen الغيوبthe unseen things وإنهاand indeed she
ألا إنها غيب الغيوب وإنها
شهادةwitnessed reality دانيone near فيin الشهادةthe visible realm أوor نائيone far away
شهادة داني في الشهادة أو نائي
Indeed, she is the Unseen of all unseen things, and she is
Behold, she is the unseen of all unseen things, and she is
the Visible—whether near within the visible realm or far.
The witnessed reality of one near in the visible realm, or far away.
أهانabased الهوىpassion قوماًsome people بهاof her قدalready تولعواthey became enamored
أهان الهوى قوماً بها قد تولعوا
فعزتso she became unattainable عليهمto them حينwhen جاؤواthey came بأهواءwith whims
فعزت عليهم حين جاؤوا بأهواء
Passion abased a people who had grown enamored of her;
Passion abased people who had become enamored of her;
yet she eluded them when they came bearing their caprices.
So she was beyond their reach when they came with whims.
إشاراتsigns أحوالٍstates رموزsymbols حقائقrealities
إشارات أحوالٍ رموز حقائق
لوائحgleams تقريبbringing near بدائعwonders إيماءallusion
لوائح تقريب بدائع إيماء
Signs of spiritual states, symbols of truths,
Signs of states, symbols of realities,
flashes that draw near, wondrous allusions.
Gleams of being drawn near, wonders of allusion,
أبانتthey revealed عنabout الغيبthe unseen المقدسsacred للذيto the one who
أبانت عن الغيب المقدس للذي
تعلقهhis attachment باللامthrough the lām فيهاwithin her وبالباءand through the bāʾ
تعلقه باللام فيها وبالباء
She disclosed the sacred Unseen to the one whose
Have revealed the sacred unseen to the one
attachment to her was through the lām in her and the bāʾ.
Whose attachment within her is through the lām and the bāʾ.
إضافيةrelational تبدوshe appears فتخفىthen she is hidden بنورهاby her light
إضافية تبدو فتخفى بنورها
وتبدوand she appears فيخفىso vanishes شاخصa figure خلفbehind أفياءshadows
وتبدو فيخفى شاخص خلف أفياء
As a relation she appears, then hides through her light;
She appears in relation, then is hidden by her light;
she appears—and a figure standing behind shadows is hidden.
And she appears, so a figure vanishes behind shadows.
