شمس ذاتي ما لها غيري طلوع

شمس ذاتي ما لها غيري طلوع

وأنا الأصل وإخواني فروع

وأنا الأصل وإخواني فروع

The sun of my essence has no rising apart from me.

My inner sun, she belongs to none but me,

And I am the root, and my brothers are branches.

Her dawn arises solely for my eyes to see,

خصني الله بهذا في الجموع

خصني الله بهذا في الجموع

وحي إلهامِ يسمَّى نفثَ روع

وحي إلهامِ يسمَّى نفثَ روع

God singled me out for this among the throngs:

God granted me this gift amongst humanity,

An inspired revelation, called a breath into the heart.

A divine inspiration breathed into me.

ظهرت من خلف ستري تنجلي

ظهرت من خلف ستري تنجلي

ذات وجه حسنها الحسن الجلي

ذات وجه حسنها الحسن الجلي

She emerged from behind my veil, shining forth,

Behind my veil she appeared suddenly,

With a face whose beauty is beauty manifest.

A beauty whose splendor was bright to behold,

وفقير الحب قد صار ملي

وفقير الحب قد صار ملي

يتملى بسليمي في الربوع

يتملى بسليمي في الربوع

And love's pauper has now become rich,

And this poor lover now owns all her gold,

Gazing his fill at Sulayma among the dwellings.

Strolling with her through meadows green and free.

قم بنا نشرب كاسات الوصال

قم بنا نشرب كاسات الوصال

بين أنواع جمالٍ وجلال

بين أنواع جمالٍ وجلال

Rise with us; let us drink the cups of union,

Come let us drink from cups of union sweet,

Amid forms of beauty and majesty.

Amidst such beauty and majestic treat,

كم رقود تحت أستار الخيال

كم رقود تحت أستار الخيال

لاحت الشمس اختفى ضوء الشموع

لاحت الشمس اختفى ضوء الشموع

How much slumber beneath the veils of imagination!

Many dreams that beneath imagination's sheet,

The sun shone forth; the light of candles vanished.

The sun now shines, the lamps no more we need.

عاذلي بالله خلِّ الإلتباسْ

عاذلي بالله خلِّ الإلتباسْ

واخلع الأكوان وانزع ذا اللباسْ

واخلع الأكوان وانزع ذا اللباسْ

My reproacher, by God, leave confusion aside!

I beg you by God, leave this ambiguity,

And cast off the created worlds, and remove this garment.

Cast off the cosmos and its false tracery,

وتناول من يد المحبوب كاسْ

وتناول من يد المحبوب كاسْ

خمرة الأرواح بل برق لموع

خمرة الأرواح بل برق لموع

And take a cup from the beloved's hand,

Take from your beloved's hand the cup, drink of me,

Of the wine of spirits—nay, a gleaming flash of lightning.

The wine of spirits, nay divine ecstasy.

حكمها النافذ في كل الشخوص

حكمها النافذ في كل الشخوص

بعموم في البرايا وخصوص

بعموم في البرايا وخصوص

Its rule prevails in every person,

Her reign prevails in every living thing,

Universally and particularly among created beings.

In the barrens and forests her rule as king,

حضرة يعرفها أهل الخلوص

حضرة يعرفها أهل الخلوص

ما لهم عنها مدى الدهر رجوع

ما لهم عنها مدى الدهر رجوع

A presence known to the pure,

Those of pure hearts her presence visiting,

From which they never turn away, for all time.

No turning back, for them no wavering.

صل يا رب على طه الرسول

O Lord, send blessings upon Ta-Ha, the Messenger,

Send blessings, O Lord on Taha your messenger,

Ahmad, the chosen one, of praiseworthy ancestry,

Ahmad the chosen, Mahmoud who all roots anchor,

ما احتسى عبد الغني خمر الوصول

ما احتسى عبد الغني خمر الوصول

من كريم ذي عطا وهو المنوع

من كريم ذي عطا وهو المنوع

As long as Abd al-Ghani sips the wine of attainment

No servant ever sipped the wine or came closer,

From a generous giver, who is also the Withholder.

To the Generous' gift which He does not confer.
