The spirit is like the wind: if it passes through the fragrance of the droplets,

it grows pure, and turns foul if it passes over carrion.

Nor does it govern a body to which it belongs,

except as what is within it dictates—so acknowledge this.

It came only from the command of God,

in lowliness born of a body, and in nobility.

So at times it is in misery from it, decreed

by my Lord, and at other times in happiness that never departs.

So seek refuge in God if you seek salvation through it,

and follow the path of the pious, and do not stop.
