لما تسمَّى فيه بالقيومِ

لما تسمَّى فيه بالقيومِ

The Real appeared in the form of the imagined,

The Truth appeared in the form of the Imaginary

When He took therein the name of the Self-Subsisting Sustainer.

When He was named the Eternal

وتتابعت أوصافه وترادفت

وتتابعت أوصافه وترادفت

أسماؤه في أنفس وجسوم

أسماؤه في أنفس وجسوم

And His attributes followed one another, and in succession came

And His attributes continued to flow

His names, in souls and bodies.

His names multiplied in souls and bodies

وتبينت أفعاله فتعاكست

وتبينت أفعاله فتعاكست

أحكامها في أمره المحكوم

أحكامها في أمره المحكوم

And His acts became manifest; then in opposition stood

And His actions became manifest and opposed

Their effects within His ordained order.

His ordained judgments

نحن الكواكب في سموات الهدى

نحن الكواكب في سموات الهدى

نرمي شياطين العدى برجوم

نرمي شياطين العدى برجوم

We are the stars in the heavens of guidance;

We are the stars in the heavens of guidance

We pelt the devils of the foes with missiles.

Pelting the devils of enmity with shooting stars

صور شربناها حلاوة كوثر

صور شربناها حلاوة كوثر

والجاهلون تعبُّ من زقّوم

والجاهلون تعبُّ من زقّوم

Forms—we drank them as Kawthar's sweetness,

Images we drank the sweetness of Kawthar from

And the ignorant gulp from Zaqqum.

While the ignorant suffer from Zaqqum

قرأوا الوجود وساوساً وزخارفاً

قرأوا الوجود وساوساً وزخارفاً

وشكوك أوهامٍ وقبح فهوم

وشكوك أوهامٍ وقبح فهوم

They read existence as whisperings and embellishments,

They read existence as delusions and decorations

And delusory doubts, and ugliness of understanding.

And doubts, imaginations and the ugliness of understandings

ولقد قرأناه صحائف نُشِّرَت

ولقد قرأناه صحائف نُشِّرَت

بالحق بين معارف وعلوم

بالحق بين معارف وعلوم

And indeed we have read it as pages spread open

While we read it as pages spread

In truth, amid insights and sciences.

With the Truth between sciences and knowledge

ظل ظليل للذين به اهتدوا

ظل ظليل للذين به اهتدوا

وعلى الذين جفوه من يحموم

وعلى الذين جفوه من يحموم

Deep shade for those who found guidance through it,

It was a shady shade for those guided by it

But over those who shunned it, a shade of black smoke.

And burning distress for those who spurned it

ضاءت سموات القلوب بشمسنا

ضاءت سموات القلوب بشمسنا

وعلى الورى كانت طلوع نجوم

وعلى الورى كانت طلوع نجوم

The heavens of hearts shone with our sun,

The heavens of hearts shone with our sun

And over humankind it was the rising of stars.

While for the people it was the rising of stars

والآن نوبته انقضت بظهورنا

والآن نوبته انقضت بظهورنا

وخصوصنا مستجمع لعموم

وخصوصنا مستجمع لعموم

And now its turn has ended with our manifestation,

And now its time has passed with our appearance

And our particularity embraces universality.

Our exclusivity encompasses the generality

أزل له ما قبلنا ولنا به

أزل له ما قبلنا ولنا به

أبد وليس الفرق غير رسوم

أبد وليس الفرق غير رسوم

His is beginningless eternity—what preceded us—and ours through Him

For Him is what was before us and for us through Him

Is endless eternity; and the difference is nothing but outward forms.

Is eternity, the difference being only conventions

نحن الذين يضيء نور علومنا

نحن الذين يضيء نور علومنا

بين الورى في غيبة المعصوم

بين الورى في غيبة المعصوم

We are those whose light of knowledge shines

We are those whose light of knowledge illuminates

Among humankind, in the absence of the Infallible One.

Among the people in the absence of the Infallible

الله أكبر ما أعز مقامنا

الله أكبر ما أعز مقامنا

وأجل وافر حظنا المقسوم

وأجل وافر حظنا المقسوم

God is greatest! How exalted is our station,

God is Great - how honorable is our station

And how sublime our abundant, allotted share!

And abundant our predestined share
