لقلبto the heart of الساهرthe wakeful one الساهيthe heedless one

The radiant, resplendent One revealed Himself
The radiant, shining one has appeared
to the heart of the wakeful yet heedless one.
To the heart of the sleepless, weary one
فأفنىso annihilated كلevery موجودexisting thing
فأفنى كل موجود
سناهHis radiance الباهرthe dazzling الباهيthe splendid
سناه الباهر الباهي
So all that exists was annihilated
So he has annihilated all existence
by His dazzling, splendid radiance.
With his brilliant, shining light
هوHe المعروفthe one known بالإمدادfor bestowing aid
هو المعروف بالإمداد
هوHe الموصوفthe one described بالإسعادas granting happiness
هو الموصوف بالإسعاد
He is known for bestowing aid;
He is known for his abundant grace
He is described as granting happiness.
He is described as bringing happiness
بدتappeared أسماؤهHis names الحسنىthe most beautiful
بدت أسماؤه الحسنى
وماand nothing فيin الكونthe universe إلاexcept هيthey
وما في الكون إلا هي
His most beautiful names appeared,
His beautiful names have appeared
and in the universe there is nothing but them.
And nothing else exists but Him
رأيناwe saw وجههHis face الباقيthe enduring
رأينا وجهه الباقي
سقاناgave us drink كاسهHis cup الساقيthe cupbearer
سقانا كاسه الساقي
We beheld His enduring face;
We saw His eternal face
the Cupbearer gave us His cup to drink.
He gave us a cup from the Giver of Drink
وإناand we indeed منthrough تجليهHis self-manifestation
وإنا من تجليه
لفيsurely in عزhonor وفيand in جاهhigh standing
لفي عز وفي جاه
And through His self-manifestation, we
And through His manifestation
are indeed in honor and high standing.
We are now in might and glory
بداappeared للعاشقto the lover المسكيthe poor (word continues)
بدا للعاشق المسكي
نcompletion of 'the poor' فيin صعبhardship وفيand in تهوينeasing
ن في صعب وفي تهوين
He appeared to the poor lover
He appeared to the suffering lover
in hardship and in relief.
In hardship and in easing
فلمso did not يقدرbe able علىto إنكاdenying (word continues)
فلم يقدر على إنكا
رهHim (completing 'denying Him') واللهِby God واللهِby God
ره واللهِ واللهِ
So he could not deny
So he was not able
Him—by God, by God!
To deny Him - by Allah! By Allah!
ومنand whoever يعرضturns away عنfrom المختاthe Chosen One (word continues)
ومن يعرض عن المختا
رِcompletion of 'the Chosen One' فهوthen he is الجاهلthe ignorant one المحتارthe bewildered one
رِ فهو الجاهل المحتار
And whoever turns away from the Chosen
And whoever turns away from the Manifest One
One is the ignorant, bewildered one.
Is the confused, lost one
لهto Him عبدʿAbd (servant) الغنيْal-Ghanī (the Self-Sufficient) عماfrom whatever
له عبد الغنيْ عما
سواهis other than Him الناهرthe one who rebukes الناهيthe one who forbids
سواه الناهر الناهي
To Him belongs ʿAbd al-Ghanī, who warns against
For him, Abdal Ghani, there is none
all besides Him, rebuking and forbidding.
