يشرقshines النورthe light بالمكانin the place القصيِّfar-off
يشرق النور بالمكان القصيِّ
فيذوبand so dissolves السوىotherness لسرthrough a mystery خفيِّhidden
فيذوب السوى لسر خفيِّ
The light shines in the far-off place,
The light shines in this holy place
And otherness dissolves through a hidden mystery.
Melting the darkness by its grace
يمنةto the right of الحيthe encampment خيمةa tent لعريبfor a small band of Arabs
يمنة الحي خيمة لعريب
نزلواthey settled قبلُearlier بالحمىin the protected grounds الحاجريِّof Hajir
نزلوا قبلُ بالحمى الحاجريِّ
To the right of the encampment is a tent for a small band of Arabs,
The living's tent is for the nomad
Who settled earlier in Hajir’s protected grounds.
Who settled here in times long gone
ياO مناديcaller of القلوبthe hearts مهلاًgently رويداًslowly
يا منادي القلوب مهلاً رويداً
إننيindeed I سائرjourneying أمامahead of المطيthe riding camels
إنني سائر أمام المطي
O caller of hearts, gently, slowly!
O caller of hearts, go slowly, gently
Indeed, I journey ahead of the riding camels.
For I walk ahead most patiently
يهبgrants الكشفunveiling نورناour light باختصاصthrough special favor
يهب الكشف نورنا باختصاص
وبسيرand through journeying علىon الصراطthe path السويstraight
وبسير على الصراط السوي
Our light grants unveiling through special favor,
Reveal our light and sacred mysteries
And through journeying along the straight path.
As we walk the straight path steadily
يرتقيascends القلبthe heart فيin هواهlove for him مقاماًa spiritual station
يرتقي القلب في هواه مقاماً
فمقاماًthen another station وراثةinheritance from الهاشميthe Hashimite
فمقاماً وراثة الهاشمي
In love for Him, the heart ascends one station,
The heart rises up in its love
Then another, through inheritance from the Hashimite.
A station, the heir of Hashim's blood
يبهرdazzles العقلthe mind نورهhis light المتجليself-revealing
يبهر العقل نوره المتجلي
فيزيلand so dispels السوىotherness بمحوthrough effacement of الوليthe saint
فيزيل السوى بمحو الولي
His self-revealing light dazzles the mind,
His light amazes the mind
And so dispels otherness through the saint’s effacement.
Dispersing the dark, the saint's act
ياO حياةlife of الفتىthe youth إذاwhen ماتhe dies فيهin him
يا حياة الفتى إذا مات فيه
وفنىand is annihilated فيin جمالthe beauty of وجهa face بهيradiant
وفنى في جمال وجه بهي
O life of the youth, when he dies in Him,
Oh life of the youth when he dies
And is annihilated in the beauty of a radiant face!
Lost in the beauty of this face
يقتضيasks for منfrom غناهhis abundance عبدa servant فقيرneedy
يقتضي من غناه عبد فقير
أنthat يسمَّىhe be named فيهin him بعبدas the servant of الغنيthe Self-Sufficient
أن يسمَّى فيه بعبد الغني
A needy servant asks of His abundance,
The poor servant needs his melody
To be called in Him Abd al-Ghani.
To be called the Rich One's own place
يهتديfinds guidance للغيوبto the unseen منهfrom him فيدعىand so is called
يهتدي للغيوب منه فيدعى
بالإمامas the imam الهاديthe guiding one وبالمهديand as the rightly guided one
بالإمام الهادي وبالمهدي
From Him he gains guidance to the unseen, and is called
He's guided to secrets, so called
The guiding Imam and the rightly guided one.
The Guiding Imam, the Mahdi foretold
يوسفيJoseph-like المقامin spiritual station يملكhe rules مصراًEgypt
يوسفي المقام يملك مصراً
وعراقاًand Iraq بحسنهthrough his beauty اليوسفيJoseph-like
وعراقاً بحسنه اليوسفي
Joseph-like in station, he rules Egypt,
His station is Yusuf's, Egypt and Iraq
And Iraq, through his Joseph-like beauty.
Ruled by his beauty so Yusufian
