لنور عينِ الوجودِ أعيانُ

لنور عينِ الوجودِ أعيانُ

وفوق إنسان تلك إنسانُ

وفوق إنسان تلك إنسانُ

The light of existence's eye has entities.

The light of existence's essence

And above that eye's pupil is a human being.

Above mankind, that is mankind

فإنها رتبةٌ مقيدةٌ

فإنها رتبةٌ مقيدةٌ

إطلاقها في القلوب إحسانُ

إطلاقها في القلوب إحسانُ

For it is a bounded rank;

For it is a restricted rank

Its release within hearts is beneficence.

Releasing it into hearts is benevolence

يقول من يشهد الرجال بها

يقول من يشهد الرجال بها

تبارك الله فهو رحمان

تبارك الله فهو رحمان

Whoever beholds the men through it says:

He who witnesses it in men says

Blessed is God, for He is the All-Merciful.

Blessed be Allah for He is Beneficent

وها هنا لا هناك منزلة

وها هنا لا هناك منزلة

ينزلها في الرسول قرآن

ينزلها في الرسول قرآن

And behold, here—not there—is a station,

Wherein He sent down the Quran unto the Messenger

Which the Qur'an brings down within the Messenger.

It began, it began, whenever I say “it began”

بدا بدا كلما أقول بدا

بدا بدا كلما أقول بدا

بدا بدا فهو فهو إيمان

بدا بدا فهو فهو إيمان

He appeared, He appeared; whenever I say, 'He appeared,'

It began, it began, so it is, it is faith

He appeared, He appeared—so He is, so He is faith.

I erased yet affirmed subtleties in

محا وقد أثبت اللطائف في

محا وقد أثبت اللطائف في

عوارف الأمر إذ هو الشان

عوارف الأمر إذ هو الشان

He effaced, and indeed established the subtleties in

The gnosis of the matter as it is seemly

The graces of the command, since He is the affair.

And we have an outlet here

وعندنا نحن فهي نافدة

وعندنا نحن فهي نافدة

وعندَهُ غيرُ نافدٍ آنُ

وعندَهُ غيرُ نافدٍ آنُ

And with us, ourselves, it is exhaustible;

While with Him, a non-ceasing instant

And with Him, a moment is inexhaustible.

Now, in the now, is one, so if

والآن في الآن واحد فإذا

والآن في الآن واحد فإذا

ثنَّى تثنَّى وأشرق الحان

ثنَّى تثنَّى وأشرق الحان

And the now within the now is one; so when

It doubles, it doubles, and the melodies shine

He doubles it, it becomes two, and the tavern shines.

And it is ornaments in the eyes

وإنها في العيون زخرفة

وإنها في العيون زخرفة

وإنها في الصماخ ألحان

وإنها في الصماخ ألحان

And indeed, in the eyes it is ornamentation;

And it is melodies in the ears

And indeed, in the ear canal it is melodies.

For that, that eye, for that

به به عين ذاك ذاك له

به به عين ذاك ذاك له

وصوت طير الغناء عيدان

وصوت طير الغناء عيدان

Through Him, through Him, is the essence of that; that is His.

And the voice of the singing bird, fresh branches

And the voice of songbirds is lutes.

The treasury of the letter opened it honor

خزانة الحرف فتحها شرف

خزانة الحرف فتحها شرف

والقفل ربحٌ لها وخسران

والقفل ربحٌ لها وخسران

The treasury of the letter—opening it is an honor;

And the lock a profit for it and loss

And the lock is gain for it, and loss.
