طلعrose امبدرُthe full moon فيin دياجيthe deep gloom of امظلامِdarkness
طلع امبدرُ في دياجي امظلامِ
فأنارand so illuminated امقلوبthe hearts بامإسلامِwith Islam
فأنار امقلوب بامإسلامِ
The full moon rose in the depths of darkness,
The full moon rose in the darkness of night
And so illuminated hearts with Islam.
And illuminated hearts with Islam's light
كاملperfect امخلقِphysical form فيamong امخليقةِcreation إنيindeed I
كامل امخلقِ في امخليقةِ إني
فيin امهوىlove عندهin his presence أسيرُa captive of امغرامpassion
في امهوى عنده أسيرُ امغرام
He is perfect in form among creation; indeed, I am
The perfection of creation, I profess
In love, a captive of passion in his presence.
I'm captive to passion, ardent love's plight
هذهthis بهجةsplendor امجمالِbeauty امإلهيْdivine
هذه بهجة امجمالِ امإلهيْ
لاحshone فيin امصورةِthe form التيthat فيamong امأَنامhumankind
لاح في امصورةِ التي في امأَنام
This is the splendor of divine beauty;
The beauty of God's image, joyous sight
It shone in the form that is among humankind.
Shone in the forms that dwell in mortal space
نتفداهwe would ransom him فيin امشهودspiritual witnessing لديناwith us
نتفداه في امشهود لدينا
بجميعwith all امأرواحthe souls وامأجسامand the bodies
بجميع امأرواح وامأجسام
In our witnessing, we would ransom him
We worship Him in all we perceive
With all souls and bodies.
In spirits, bodies, each being and place
سيدthe master of امرسلِthe messengers جاءَcame بامحقِّwith the truth حتىuntil
سيد امرسلِ جاءَ بامحقِّ حتى
أبصرgained sight امخلقُcreation بعدafter طولِa long period of امتعاميwillful blindness
أبصر امخلقُ بعد طولِ امتعامي
The master of the messengers came with the truth, until
The messenger of truth made all sights keen
Creation gained sight after prolonged willful blindness.
After blindness so long, veil's darkened lace
أفلجgap-toothed امثغرِthe mouth أكحلnaturally dark-rimmed امعينِthe eye منهfrom him
أفلج امثغرِ أكحل امعينِ منه
فيamong امبريَّاتِcreated beings نورlight بدرa full moon امتمامfullness
في امبريَّاتِ نور بدر امتمام
With spaced front teeth and naturally dark-rimmed eyes—from him
His visage did mute mouths open, eyes gleam
Among all creatures shines the light of the full moon.
Moon's full orb shone in cheeks, glorious face
أذهبdispelled امكفرَunbelief بامهدايةِthrough guidance فيناamong us
أذهب امكفرَ بامهدايةِ فينا
وبهand through him امنورُthe light لاحshone بعدafter امظلامthe darkness
وبه امنورُ لاح بعد امظلام
He dispelled unbelief among us through guidance,
With guidance He dispelled all disbelief
And through him light shone after darkness.
Light burst forth after the gloom we did face
وعليهand upon him امصلاةُblessings فيat كلevery وقتmoment
وعليه امصلاةُ في كل وقت
منfrom عُبيدʿUbayd (humble servant) امغنيْal-Ghanī (the Self-Sufficient) لهto him بامسلامwith peace
من عُبيد امغنيْ له بامسلام
And may blessings be upon him at every moment,
On him blessings and peace every moment
From ʿUbayd al-Ghanī, with greetings of peace to him.
From servants who hymn to Islam's embrace
وعلىand upon امآلِthe family وامصحابِand the companions جميعاًall
وعلى امآلِ وامصحابِ جميعاً
ماas long as تغنَّىsings امهزارُthe nightingale بامأنغامwith melodies
ما تغنَّى امهزارُ بامأنغام
And upon all his family and companions,
And his household and all his companions
As long as the nightingale sings melodies,
As long as stars glitter or red sunbeams race
أوor سرىtraveled by night امبرقُthe lightning منfrom نواحيthe regions of حماهhis sanctuary
أو سرى امبرقُ من نواحي حماه
أوor زهاglowed امزهرُthe flowers وهوwhile it is فيin امأَكمامthe flower-sheaths
أو زها امزهرُ وهو في امأَكمام
Or lightning courses by night from the reaches of his sanctuary,
Or lightning cracks from Hama's dark horizons
Or flowers glow while still within their sheaths.
Or flowers bloom, petals enfolded in grace
