بروقlightning flashes الحيthe encampment لمّاعَهْgleaming
بروق الحي لمّاعَهْ
ونفسand the soul of الصبthe ardent lover طماعَهْfull of desire
ونفس الصب طماعَهْ
The encampment's lightning flashes gleam.
The lightning of life flashes,
And the ardent lover's soul is full of desire.
And the soul of youth is greedy,
وكتمانand concealing الهوىlove طاعهobedience
وكتمان الهوى طاعه
ولكنbut هذهthis الساعهthe hour
ولكن هذه الساعه
And concealing love is obedience.
Keeping love secret is obedience,
But at this hour,
But at this moment,
رأيناwe saw وجهthe face of منthe one whom نهوىwe love
رأينا وجه من نهوى
ومناand from us حقتproved true الدعوىthe claim
ومنا حقت الدعوى
We saw the face of the one we love.
We saw the face of our beloved,
And our claim proved true.
And we were right to profess our love,
ونلناand we attained الرتبةthe rank القصوىthe highest
ونلنا الرتبة القصوى
وأبدىand revealed النورthe light شعشاعهits radiance
وأبدى النور شعشاعه
And we attained the highest rank.
We attained the highest rank,
And the light revealed its radiance.
And the light shone brightly.
ترنمsing melodiously أيهاO الحاديthe chanting camel-driver
ترنم أيها الحادي
أناI فيon يمنةthe right side of الواديthe valley
أنا في يمنة الوادي
Sing, O camel-driver!
Sing, O companion!
I am on the right side of the valley.
I am on the right side of the valley,
ولمعand the flash of البرقthe lightning ليto me باديvisible
ولمع البرق لي بادي
ودنياand the world of الغيرall else خداعهdeceptive
ودنيا الغير خداعه
And the lightning's flash is visible to me.
And the lightning flashes before me.
And the world of all else is deceptive.
The world of others is deception.
مطاياناour mounts بناwith us سارتjourneyed
مطايانا بنا سارت
وفيand into غورthe depths of الحمىthe sanctuary غارتdescended
وفي غور الحمى غارت
Our mounts carried us along.
Our mounts carried us,
And they descended into the sanctuary's depths.
And plunged into the heat of passion,
وأطيارand the birds of المنىhopes طارتtook flight
وأطيار المنى طارت
وقدand indeed مدextended الفتىthe young man باعهhis armspan
وقد مد الفتى باعه
And the birds of hope took flight.
And the birds of wishes took flight,
And the young man has stretched his arms wide.
As the youth extended his arms.
وصلّىand bestowed blessings ربناour Lord حقاtruly
وصلّى ربنا حقا
علىupon خيرthe best of الورىcreation صدقاin truth
على خير الورى صدقا
And may our Lord truly send blessings
Pray sincerely, O Lord,
Upon the best of creation, in truth.
Upon the best of creations truthfully,
بهthrough him عبدAbd (servant of) الغنيْal-Ghani (the Self-Sufficient) يرقىascends
به عبد الغنيْ يرقى
يقويstrengthens اللهGod أسماعهhis hearing
يقوي الله أسماعه
Through him, Abd al-Ghani ascends.
Through him the rich servant ascends,
God strengthens his hearing.
May God strengthen his hearing.
