ذالُ الذهابِ مقيِّدٌ طلْقَ الشذا

ذالُ الذهابِ مقيِّدٌ طلْقَ الشذا

والنفع منه يزيل داهمة الأذى

والنفع منه يزيل داهمة الأذى

The dhāl of departure binds the unfettered fragrance.

The going is restricted though departure is easy

And the benefit from it dispels the onslaught of harm.

And its benefit removes impending harm

متبذل فكأنه متمنع

متبذل فكأنه متمنع

وبه الحجا منه لديه تعوذا

وبه الحجا منه لديه تعوذا

Freely accessible, it is as though it holds itself aloof.

Self-sacrificing, as though self-denying

And through it, reason sought refuge from it in its presence.

In it lies protection, yet in it lies plea

ظهر الضيا ظهر الضيا ظهر الضيا

ظهر الضيا ظهر الضيا ظهر الضيا

خفي السوى خفي السوى هذا وذا

خفي السوى خفي السوى هذا وذا

The light appeared, the light appeared, the light appeared.

Daylight appears, daylight appears, daylight appears

All else became hidden, all else became hidden—this and that.

The obscure is hidden, the obscure is hidden, this and that

حرف به نطق الوجود وشكله

حرف به نطق الوجود وشكله

في اللوح والمحفوظ ذلك هكذا

في اللوح والمحفوظ ذلك هكذا

A letter through which existence spoke, and its form

A letter with which existence spoke and was shaped

Is in the Tablet; and what is preserved is that, just so.

In the tablet and the preserved, just so

وهو العلي عن الرسوم ونحوها

وهو العلي عن الرسوم ونحوها

من حضرة نبوية فإذا إذا

من حضرة نبوية فإذا إذا

And it is exalted beyond forms and their like,

And it is the Sublime beyond forms and the like

From a prophetic presence—so then, then.

From a prophetic presence, so there, there
