    والبعض منه به يكون المشركُ

    The Book's truth is for whoever holds fast to it;

And through a part of it, one becomes a polytheist.

And it is clear to the one who, in its entirety,

Knows it, and does not hold fast to just a part of it.

Derived from the wall of every city,

To enclose within them what comes apart.

And they appeared as forms when made emphatic,

Through their second descent, before one who walks the path.

With truth We sent it down—that is the first.

All have believed in it and sought blessing.

And with it it indeed descended—this became the second.

So they divided over it and wrangled about it.

And it appeared to them as forms, so they singled out a part of it

To leave out of it, while another part they did not leave out.

And their abode's rule remained over them, in accordance with

What it entailed for them, through ignorance that holds sway.

And therefore this world became accursed,

Except what was exempted—and the battlefield seethed.

And among His signs, your colors came to you,

And the tongues that began to move.

And in them is abundant variation that cannot be grasped.

And Allah, our Master, is all-encompassing; there has come

To you from beyond all, a face that lays all bare.

Rather, that is a glorious Qur'an, which came in

A tablet preserved from whoever associates partners with God.
