ياO منyou who جمعgathered الحسنbeauty جميعاall of it وحوىand encompassed
يا من جمع الحسن جميعا وحوى
رفقاًbe gentle بمتيمwith one enslaved by love لهwho has فرطُextreme intensity جوىburning anguish
رفقاً بمتيم له فرطُ جوى
O you who gathered all beauty and encompassed it,
O you who have collected all beauty and contained it,
be gentle with one enslaved by love, whose anguish is extreme.
Be gentle with one passionately in love,
عشقيmy love لكfor you فيin الكمالperfection داءٌsickness ودواand a cure
عشقي لك في الكمال داءٌ ودوا
بالنورwith light طفىextinguished النارthe fire وبالنارand with fire كوىseared
بالنور طفى النار وبالنار كوى
In its perfection, my love for you is sickness and cure.
My love for you is a sickness and its cure,
With light he quenched the fire, and with fire he seared.
With light the fire is extinguished and with fire one is branded.
هذاthis هوit is باطنinward وهذاand this ظاهرoutward
هذا هو باطن وهذا ظاهر
بالخلقtoward creation هوhe is اللطيفthe Gentle One وهوand he is القاهرthe Subduer
بالخلق هو اللطيف وهو القاهر
This is inward, and this is outward.
This is the inner meaning and this the outer,
Toward creation he is the Gentle One, and he is the Subduer.
With creation He is Subtle and He is Dominant,
فردunique أحدone لهhis is الجمالbeauty الباهرdazzling
فرد أحد له الجمال الباهر
والناسand the people لكلfor each واحدone فيهin him هوىpassion
والناس لكل واحد فيه هوى
Unique and One, his is dazzling beauty.
To one He granted perfect beauty,
And among people, each one has a passion for him.
And people are inclined to each one's love.
منهمamong them منone who يطلبseeks الشهودwitnessing الصافيpure
منهم من يطلب الشهود الصافي
والآخرand another يطلبseeks الرضابsweet saliva الشافيhealing
والآخر يطلب الرضاب الشافي
Among them, one seeks pure witnessing.
Some seek the pure witnesses,
And another seeks sweet, healing saliva.
Others seek the healing strikes,
والآخرand another طالبٌseeking لحظa glance وافيfull; generous
والآخر طالبٌ لحظ وافي
والآخرand another غيرother than ذاكthat فيin الدينreligion روىrelated
والآخر غير ذاك في الدين روى
And another seeks a generous glance.
Another seeks a fulfilling glance,
And another has related something else in matters of faith.
And another is versed in religion's tradition.
كاساتcups رحيقناour pure wine عليناamong us دارتwent round
كاسات رحيقنا علينا دارت
فيin كفthe palm سقاتناour cupbearers التيwhich قدhad already جارتacted unjustly
في كف سقاتنا التي قد جارت
Cups of our pure wine went round among us,
Our cups of wine circulated among us,
in our cupbearers' palm, which had dealt unjustly.
In the hands of cupbearers passing them around,
فانظرso look بالقلبwith the heart فيat عقولminds طارتflew away
فانظر بالقلب في عقول طارت
منfrom حيرتهاtheir bewilderment لأجلbecause of غيرٍotherness وسوىand what is other
من حيرتها لأجل غيرٍ وسوى
So look with the heart at minds that have flown away,
So look with the heart at minds that have flown
out of their bewilderment over otherness and what is other.
In their confusion for the sake of another's passion.
أزكىthe purest صلواتblessings ربناour Lord الخلاقthe Creator
أزكى صلوات ربنا الخلاق
لاmay … not زالcease معwith السلامpeace منهfrom him الباقيenduring
لا زال مع السلام منه الباقي
The purest blessings of our Lord, the Creator—
Most pure are the prayers of our Lord the Creator,
may they, with enduring peace from him, never cease
Who remains with peace everlasting,
يأتيcomes لنبيناto our Prophet وللآفاقand to the horizons
يأتي لنبينا وللآفاق
منfrom عبدAbd (servant) غنيْGhani (self-sufficient) عبادةworship منهfrom him نوىhe intended
من عبد غنيْ عبادة منه نوى
coming to our Prophet and to the horizons,
Coming to our Prophet and to all horizons,
from Abd al-Ghani, who intended this as an act of worship.
From a servant made rich by worship he intended.
