No mouth would have spoken, O bearer of the face,
You do not comprehend, O one with the face, my weeping
of you, were I not nothingness.
Were it not for the fact that I am nothingness

So turn and look to your origin; do not
So turn and look to your origin, do not

Boast, for you will be struck with regret

تستوي الأنوار والظلم
Indeed, before my Lord's power,
Verily my Lord, with His power
lights and darkness are equal.
Light and darkness are equal

And His gifts are without causes,
And His gifts are without rationale
and so are deprivation and blessings.
As is deprivation and bounty

No soul has necessitated its gift;
No self earns its provision
rather, His gifts to us are generosity.
Rather, His gifts to us are generosity

Rather, by pure choice, over
every bearer of a head He has a foot.
Every one with a head and foot

And all are captive in His grasp:
And all are captives of His grip
at times a giver of blessings, at times an avenger.
One granted bounty at times, and one avenged another time
