حبيبي أنت لي ظاهرْ
سبانيtook me captive وجهكyour face الباهرْdazzling
سباني وجهك الباهرْ
My beloved, you are manifest to me.
My beloved, you are apparent to me
Your dazzling face has taken me captive.
Your radiant face has captivated me
وطرفيand my eye فيin الدجىthe darkness ساهرwakeful
وطرفي في الدجى ساهر
وسلطانand the dominion الهوىof love قاهرoverpowering
وسلطان الهوى قاهر
And my eye stays wakeful in the darkness,
And my eyes in the darkness are wakeful
And love's dominion is overpowering.
And the sultan of love is conqueror
أماناًsafety ياO منىdesire قلبيmy heart
أماناً يا منى قلبي
منfrom الهجرانabandonment والسلبand dispossession
من الهجران والسلب
Grant me safety, O my heart's desire,
Give me safety, O wish of my heart
From abandonment and dispossession.
From separation and deprivation
وإنيand indeed I حائرbewildered اللبthe mind
وإني حائر اللب
علىat عرفانكknowledge of you الزاهرradiant
على عرفانك الزاهر
And I am bewildered in mind
And I, confused in mind
At the radiant knowledge of you.
About your blossoming familiarity
بداappeared منfrom جانبthe side الواديof the valley
بدا من جانب الوادي
عليناupon us نوركyour light الهاديguiding
علينا نورك الهادي
From the valley's side appeared
Your guiding light has begun to appear to us
Your guiding light upon us.
From the side of the valley
فذابso melted الركبthe caravan والحاديand the camel-driver
فذاب الركب والحادي
وتاهand strayed الغرthe novice والماهرand the adept
وتاه الغر والماهر
So the caravan and the camel-driver melted away,
So the caravan and the guide melted away
And the novice and the adept lost their way.
And the ignorant and the skilled were lost
سقىmay water اللهGod الحمىthe sanctuary النجديof Najd
سقى الله الحمى النجدي
سحابthe cloud الشوقof longing والوجدand ecstasy
سحاب الشوق والوجد
May God water the sanctuary of Najd
May Allah water the Najdi zeal
With the cloud of longing and ecstasy.
With clouds of longing and rapture
ألاah! ليتif only الهوىlove يجديwould yield
ألا ليت الهوى يجدي
لقاءa meeting with الطيبthe good one الطاهرthe pure one
لقاء الطيب الطاهر
Ah, if only love would yield
Oh, if only this love avails
A meeting with the good and pure one.
A meeting with the good and the pure

على من خص بالتكريم

Upon him who was singled out for honor.
Upon the one endowed with honor

بهthrough him فيin قدرهhis rank الشاهرillustrious
به في قدره الشاهر
Abd al-Ghani attained precedence
Abdul Ghani conveyed devotion
Through him, in his illustrious rank.
