إن روحي بك روح مطلقَهْ

إن روحي بك روح مطلقَهْ

علقت من حين كانت علقَهْ

علقت من حين كانت علقَهْ

Indeed, through You my spirit is a spirit unbound.

My soul is utterly devoted to you

It clung from the time it was a clinging clot,

Having clung since it was an embryo

نطفة من أكل أدمٍ وغذا

نطفة من أكل أدمٍ وغذا

ركِّبتْ من أربعٍ متَّفقَهْ

ركِّبتْ من أربعٍ متَّفقَهْ

A drop of seed from eating relishes and nourishment,

A droplet from Adam's food and sustenance

Compounded from four harmonious elements:

Formed of four concordant elements

من تراب ثم ماء وهوا

من تراب ثم ماء وهوا

ثم نار رتبة مفترقَهْ

ثم نار رتبة مفترقَهْ

From earth, then water and air,

Of earth then water and air

Then fire—a separate rank.

Then fire, stages set apart

ظهرت عن كل جسم وهو عن

ظهرت عن كل جسم وهو عن

ألف الغيب الهيولي اللَّبقَهْ

ألف الغيب الهيولي اللَّبقَهْ

It emerged from every body, and the body from

It emerged beyond any body, and any body

The alif of the Unseen, the apt primordial matter.

From the obscure, primordial chaos

والهيولى عن صفات ظهرت

والهيولى عن صفات ظهرت

وهي عن ذات بكل محدقه

وهي عن ذات بكل محدقه

And primordial matter emerged from attributes,

And that chaos emerged from attributes

And these from an Essence encompassing all.

Which in turn emerged from the Essence in every respect

فهي روح آخر الأمر كما

فهي روح آخر الأمر كما

أول الكل غدت مستبقه

أول الكل غدت مستبقه

Thus it is spirit at the end of things, just as

So it is a soul, last in order as

It became foremost at the beginning of all.

First in principle, outpacing all

حملت للكل والكل لها

حملت للكل والكل لها

حامل كالعين ذات الحدقه

حامل كالعين ذات الحدقه

It bore all, and all was its

Bearing all, and all bearing it

Bearer, like the eye with its pupil.

Like an eye with a pupil

ولها الكل لباس فمتى

ولها الكل لباس فمتى

عرفت نالت يقيناً وثقه

عرفت نالت يقيناً وثقه

And all is a garment for it; whenever

And for it is all a garment, so when

It knows, it attains certainty and confidence,

It knew, it attained certainty and trust

وتدلت وتدانت شرفاً

وتدلت وتدانت شرفاً

من جنان عاليات عبقه

من جنان عاليات عبقه

And descends and draws near in honor,

And it swayed and bowed in noble grace

From lofty, fragrant gardens,

From lofty, fragrant gardens

ومقامات وأنواع على

ومقامات وأنواع على

ما على شيءٍ هنا منطبقه

ما على شيءٍ هنا منطبقه

And stations and exalted forms

And stations and kinds beyond

That correspond to nothing here.

What matches anything here

ومتى ما جهلت حلت لظىً

ومتى ما جهلت حلت لظىً

وغدت في جهلها محترقه

وغدت في جهلها محترقه

And whenever it is ignorant, it dwells in blazing fire,

And when it was ignorant, it suffered agony

And becomes consumed by fire in its ignorance.

And was consumed in its ignorance

وهي في أنواع ذلٍّ وأذىً

وهي في أنواع ذلٍّ وأذىً

وهي في دنيا وأخرى قلقه

وهي في دنيا وأخرى قلقه

And it is amid kinds of humiliation and harm,

And it is in kinds of disgrace and harm

And it is uneasy in this world and the next.

And it is in this world and the next, restless

فافهم الأول والآخر لا

فافهم الأول والآخر لا

تجهل الرزاق والمرتزقه

تجهل الرزاق والمرتزقه

So understand the First and the Last; do not

So understand the first and the last, do not

Be ignorant of the Provider and those receiving provision.

Be ignorant of the Sustainer and the sustained

واعرف الرزق وحققه به

واعرف الرزق وحققه به

إنه الحق وكن معتنقه

إنه الحق وكن معتنقه

And know provision, and realize it through Him:

And recognize sustenance and verify it through Him

Indeed, it is the Real; be one who embraces it,

He is the Truth, so hold fast to Him

ذا وجود نازل في رتب

ذا وجود نازل في رتب

بأمانات لها أو سرقه

بأمانات لها أو سرقه

Possessing an existence descending through ranks,

Of existence descending in ranks

With trusts belonging to them, or through theft.

With trusts for it, or pilfered away
