ولقد شهدتُ قِبالة الأقصى الذي

Indeed, opposite al-Aqsa, I beheld—

And indeed I saw, opposite al-Aqsa, to which

to which the great roads of approach had borne us—

Great approaches had brought us,

كاساً من الحجر الرخام مدوَّراً

كاساً من الحجر الرخام مدوَّراً

في بركةٍ جمعت بفكرٍ شاردِ

في بركةٍ جمعت بفكرٍ شاردِ

a rounded cup made of marble stone,

A rounded cup of marble stone,

within a pool fashioned by a far-ranging mind.

In a pool assembled by a wandering mind.

وأتيتُهُ فشربتُ منه فيا له

وأتيتُهُ فشربتُ منه فيا له

كاس تدفَّق بالزلالِ الباردِ

كاس تدفَّق بالزلالِ الباردِ

I approached it and drank from it—what a

And I came to it and drank from it—oh, what a

cup, gushing with cool, limpid water!

Cup that gushed with cold, clear water!
