In the season of summer and the time of winter,
The summer's time and winter's hour
The maiden of the sanctuary appears, and so does the youth.
The fevered girl grows clear and the lad
وهذاand this الحبيبthe beloved لناto us قدindeed أتىhas come
إلامَhow long ياO قلبheart وحتىand until متىwhen
And this beloved has indeed come to us.
And this lover to us has come
How long, O heart—and until when?
Why, O heart, and until when

What has already happened in your affair is enough for you.
Will what has happened suffice you
Indeed, all have halted except me.
All have stopped except I

وياand O صبlovesick one مهلاًslowly ملأتyou have filled الإناthe vessel
For my journeying is the goal, and it is what is desired.
So walk is the aim and it's the attainment
And, O lovesick one, slow down—you have filled the vessel.
And O morning dew, you've filled the vessels

And you, O she-camels, weariness has worn you down.
And you, O gazelle, bless the meadows
And the sweetness of slumber has forsaken the eyelids.
And the eyelids have wronged the goodness of the meadows
لمنfor whoever لامcensures فيconcerning الحبlove طرفٌan eye عميhas gone blind
ونفسand the soul of المحبthe lover بهinto it ترتميflings itself
The eye of whoever censures love has gone blind.
To the critic in love a blind side
And the lover's soul flings itself into it.
And the lover's soul by it is flung

How much toil, O driver of the mounts—how much!
How much toil, goading the steeds! How much!
So ease the pace, and do not grow weary.
So lighten the pace and do not grow weary
