قلبي بنى فيه الهوى بيتَ الجمالْ

حجوا يا عشاقْ من كل الأفاقْ

حجوا يا عشاقْ من كل الأفاقْ

In my heart, love has built the house of beauty.

My heart, wherein desire built the house of beauty -

Make pilgrimage, O lovers, from every horizon.

Come pilgrims, from all horizons!

حولي طوفوا وارموا جمري في الوادي

حولي طوفوا وارموا جمري في الوادي

وادي الأماني وحجكم قامْ

وادي الأماني وحجكم قامْ

Circle around me, and cast my embers into the valley,

Circle around me and cast my embers into the valley -

The valley of wishes—and your pilgrimage is accomplished.

The valley of wishes; perfect is your pilgrimage.

يا طلعة الوجه المنير بالكمالْ

يا طلعة الوجه المنير بالكمالْ

إنني مشتاقْ وافر الأشواقْ

إنني مشتاقْ وافر الأشواقْ

O vision of the face radiant with perfection!

O countenance luminous with utmost perfection!

Indeed, I am yearning, overflowing with longing.

I yearn, abundant in longing.

لي لم يوفوا من لقياهم ميعادي

لي لم يوفوا من لقياهم ميعادي

أهل المعاني قلبي بهم هامْ

أهل المعاني قلبي بهم هامْ

They have not kept for me my appointed meeting with them.

Those whom I met did not keep our promised time -

The people of inner meanings—my heart is enraptured by them.

My heart is obsessed with the people of meaning.

فاكشف بنور الحق أستار الخيالْ

فاكشف بنور الحق أستار الخيالْ

وافتح الأغلاقْ واقرأ الأوراقْ

وافتح الأغلاقْ واقرأ الأوراقْ

So lift the veils of imagination with the light of Truth.

Reveal with the light of truth the veils of illusion -

And open the locks, and read the pages.

Open the locks and unfold the pages.

ذا المعروفُ واسمع رنات الحادي

ذا المعروفُ واسمع رنات الحادي

فالوصل داني وطابت الشامْ

فالوصل داني وطابت الشامْ

This is what is known; and hear the camel-driver's ringing chants.

O generous one, and listen to the song of the lover -

So union is near, and al-Sham has grown sweet.

For the union is close and the night serene.

واستجلى هذا الكاس في جنح الليالْ

واستجلى هذا الكاس في جنح الليالْ

إن خمري راقْ زائد الإشراقْ

إن خمري راقْ زائد الإشراقْ

And this cup came into view in the darkness of the nights.

Clarify this goblet in the wings of night -

Indeed, my wine is clear, its radiance increasing.

My wine is smooth, exceeding radiance.

فالمخطوفُ قلبي هذاك الصادي

فالمخطوفُ قلبي هذاك الصادي

لما يعاني بحر الهوى الطامْ

لما يعاني بحر الهوى الطامْ

So my heart is the ravished one, that thirsting one,

My heart, seized by yearning for that caller -

As it endures the overflowing sea of love.

Suffers the tumultuous sea of love.

عيني التي قد شاهدت وجه الحبيبْ

عيني التي قد شاهدت وجه الحبيبْ

مكشوف الأستارْ شعَّاع الأنوارْ

مكشوف الأستارْ شعَّاع الأنوارْ

My eye, which has beheld the beloved's face,

My eye, which beheld the face of the beloved -

Unveiled, radiant with lights,

Unveiled, effulgent in light.

حتى صارت تعطي للغير الأسرارْ

حتى صارت تعطي للغير الأسرارْ

يوم التلاقي من فرط إنعامْ

يوم التلاقي من فرط إنعامْ

Until it came to impart secrets to others,

It renders secrets to others -

On the day of meeting, through abundant favor.

From the intensity of favor, the day we met.

وكوشف القلب بذا العلم الغريبْ

وكوشف القلب بذا العلم الغريبْ

زادت الأطوارْ حارت الأفكارْ

زادت الأطوارْ حارت الأفكارْ

And this wondrous knowledge was revealed to the heart.

When the heart was revealed this wondrous knowledge -

The states multiplied; thoughts were bewildered,

The phases increased and thoughts burned,

لما طارت عنا أطيار الأغيارْ

لما طارت عنا أطيار الأغيارْ

والقلب راقي في أوج إسلامْ

والقلب راقي في أوج إسلامْ

When the birds of otherness flew away from us.

For the birds of strangers flew from us -

And the heart ascends to the zenith of submission.

With the heart rising to the apex of peace.

ثم الصلاة والسلام من قريبْ

ثم الصلاة والسلام من قريبْ

للهادي المختارْ العالي المقدارْ

للهادي المختارْ العالي المقدارْ

Then blessings and peace, from close at hand,

Then prayer and peace from the near one -

To the chosen guide, exalted in rank,

The chosen guide, exalted in rank.

من قد سارت لما ناداها الأشجارْ

من قد سارت لما ناداها الأشجارْ

وهو الواقي بجوده العامْ

وهو الواقي بجوده العامْ

The one for whom the trees walked when he called them,

Whom the trees called when he walked by them -

And he is the protector through his all-embracing generosity.

The protector, with his abundant grace.

ما طاب من عبد الغني الصدر الرحيبْ

ما طاب من عبد الغني الصدر الرحيبْ

في نظم الأشعارْ بالمدح المعطارْ

في نظم الأشعارْ بالمدح المعطارْ

As long as Abd al-Ghani's spacious breast takes delight

How excellent from the servant of the bountiful breast -

In composing verses with fragrant praise,

In composing poetry, with fragrant praise.

أو قد دارت أفلاك وقت الأسحارْ

أو قد دارت أفلاك وقت الأسحارْ

وطاب ساقي بطيب أنغامْ

وطاب ساقي بطيب أنغامْ

Or the spheres revolve in the hours before dawn,

The spheres revolved at the hour of dawn -

And my cupbearer delights in the sweetness of melodies.

And the cupbearer was sweet with melodies.
